Descripción

In the context of the rapid change that we are currently experiencing, and even more so due to the crisis resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, companies must adapt to the remote performance of their tasks and the urgent digitalisation process that this entails.

In this matter, the training of company employees is necessary for their correct adaptation and the improvement of their productivity.

We had the pleasure of interviewing Ignacio de la Vega, director of the ESIC campus in Malaga and expert in digital transformation, who will be able to tell us in more detail about the importance of training in the process of digital transformation of companies.

  1. Considering the change in the trend towards digitalisation, which has been even greater in recent times, what do you consider to be the main training needs and areas of training for professionals, for them to adapt correctly to this new reality?

Nowadays, digitalisation and the culture of innovation are fundamental pillars for building the success and future growth of any business. If we consider what has happened with COVID and this necessary digitalisation as a new reality, the most important thing is to be aware of the need to digitalise processes.

The training needs I would set in specialised postgraduate programmes, each one based on the competitive environment and the market of each company. On the other hand, mentoring and ad hoc training programmes, which allow the development of professional skills that help to position the company in a professional environment.

This need to design and adapt training needs seems to me to be fundamental currently.

  1. Do you think that the current Spanish business fabric is prepared for this new reality with the current level of digital training?

Unfortunately, we are a long way off and there is still a long way to go in Spain. Only 14% of SMEs have a digitalisation plan, so there is still a long way to go.

A very important factor that has driven the digital transformation process has been teleworking. The possibility of digitising routine tasks and resolving incidents through digital resources has been consolidated without the need to resort to those physical elements that previously seemed to be necessary.

It is essential for SMEs to embark on highly specialised training for their human resources to make progress in this process.

  1. Why is it so necessary to provide digital training to employees in companies?

Having a team of professionals with digital know-how is key. Being able to combine this with the right skills and aptitudes is key to the functioning of companies today.

Digitalisation favours the creation of modern, competitive, and fundamentally productive companies. Not only does it change the way talent and processes are managed, it also improves the ability to react and anticipate to any kind of situation.

These benefits are internal to the business but translate into advantages from the customer's point of view. Digital skills allow us today to monitor and control the activities of key customers. Knowing their current and potential needs and reacting and communicating with them in a more fluid and efficient way in that sense, is the key.

  1. Do you think that training and economic and business development are linked and why?

They are totally linked. If less digitised companies were to increase their level of digitisation, they would have enormous potential to increase their productivity and competitiveness in the environments in which they operate.

Undoubtedly, business management by a skilled human team allows us to adjust the costs of each company's needs as much as possible and is fundamental.

The fact that economic development and digital skills go hand in hand is an issue that needs to be addressed before any other consideration, because it will be linked to a clear productive development in the future.

  1. If an SME is considering training to advance in its digitalisation process, what do you consider to be the most appropriate training itinerary?

The first thing a company should do is to analyse itself and see what its current state is. There are people who were born digital, others who are more traditional and have had to adapt and others who are not thinking of adapting and this is going to pose a risk to their existence in the future.

Training for any organisation must begin by convincing the people who currently hold a position of power in the company, and then the rest of the employees, because the process begins with awareness and must have a leader.

In addition, it must be considered that training is not an element of the organisation.
