We are living in a time of great change in which customer behaviour is constantly evolving. For this reason, companies must adapt to the different needs that customers demand. And for this, the incorporation of new technologies is key.

Artificial intelligence, IoT, big data and the cloud are just some of the technologies that have been incorporated by companies wishing to adapt to the new digital landscape and stand out from the competition. In fact, according to data from the National Statistics Institute of Spain (INE), IoT is one of the technologies most used by companies, specifically by 16%.  It is followed by industrial or service robots, used by 8.9% of companies, and big data, by 8.5%.

However, we believe it is important to emphasise that digital transformation is a process that goes beyond the implementation of these new technologies. It is a complete restructuring of all processes, strategies, our culture and our relationship with customers.

Here are some of the most useful and cutting-edge technologies you can incorporate into your SME.

IoT

The main advantage of IoT (enlazar con el monográfico de IoT) is that it is a very versatile technology, as it can be easily adaptable depending on your needs. More and more SMEs are incorporating this tool in different processes such as warehouse management to have greater logistical control, or to measure the useful life of machinery in order to carry out preventive maintenance. Its implementation provides us with the following advantages, among others:

  • Increase the efficiency and productivity of business processes.
  • Save costs by optimising energy cycles.
  • Improve production processes by identifying bottlenecks.
  • Reduce downtime caused by equipment failure.

Big Data

Big data is closely related to all the technologies we are going to talk about in this post. One of the results of digitally transforming your SME is usually, among others, a greater flow of data. Adding up the data produced by the tools we are explaining, without big data it would be impossible to manage it.

In this sense, the function of big data is to aggregate the raw data sets that are generated on a daily basis and process them so that they can be used, among other things, for decision-making. Its advantages include:

  • Improved decision making.
  • Reduced costs and increased process efficiency.
  • Greater ability to understand and segment customer needs.
  • Easier to find new business opportunities.

Cloud

It is one of the key tools in any organisation. The cloud allows us to decentralise different processes and access them at any time, from wherever we need to. With the arrival of Covid-19, this technology has been one of the most important factors for any company at a global level, as it has enabled efficient and secure remote work. Its main advantages are:

  • Cost savings on servers and other equipment when using remote resources.
  • Secure access to information in the event of equipment failure.
  • Accessibility so that all teams can collaborate from any location.

Artificial Intelligence

As mentioned above, this is one of the tools that go hand in hand with big data, given the immensity of data that a programme needs to learn. With this data and through machine learning, programs will learn to simulate human intelligence, allowing them to solve complex problems and assist in the automation of different processes.

One of the most common uses of this technology in SMEs are customer service assistants such as chatbots (Enlazar con post sobre chatbots)The advantages of these programs for our SME are, among others:

  • Answer common questions from your business.
  • Simplify customer service, optimising the time of both parties.
  • Allow contact 24 hours a day.
  • Avoid unnecessary calls and waiting time.

All these technologies are a very important aid in the digital transformation of SMEs. Specially to respond effectively to the constant changes presented by customers and to boost our competitiveness. Don't wait any longer, stand out from the competition by digitising your SME!
